    Default I wish....

I had brought my 5DMkII and tripod to DC this week--as there is a full moon which might have looked really cool in some images of the Capitol or the Washington Monument.

    What do you wish for?

I saw a guy this am near the Washington Monument with a tripod. I thought about going out with the G10 tonight but we had a late dinner.

You can can a tripod permit from the Capitol Police. It allows you to set up a tripod on any grassy area around the monuments, buildings etc. They do not permit tripods on the sidewalks, safety issue, in their eyes.

They say Guantanamo is nice this time of year and great for sunset photos (just clone out the bars):):)

I had no trouble taking pics of the monuments with a tripod. Only time I was hassled was inside the Lincoln memorial. They didn't want my tripod damaging the marble they told me. Outside the memorial on the steps, I had no trouble. I made a point to also bring my 28 1.8 lens for those situations where I had to shoot handheld in low light. Worked great.

Late at night they tend not to hassle photographers. But if you want daylight shots, it's easy to get the permit form the Capitol Police (no charge). All you ned is a drivers license or passport. As I recall their office is in the basement of the Capitol.

    Nice shot by the way.

There was a fabulous sunset last night...Sadly I missed it for photographic purposes. Court took longer than expected and we had lunch reservations after. I made the fatal mistake of trying of trying to make to the Cpaital--instead of the Washington Monument....but it was still neat to see.
