    Marc,

Did you get the title right?

This is stupendous , my equal favourite animal in almost perfect light.

    The eyes are great!

    Thanks Ken.
Yes, the title was deliberate, if I'm not mistaken quite a few Americans refer to the WD as the painted wolf.
Either that or I've been watching way too many Nat Geo doc's!!:D

Beautiful portrait, Marc; great light & BG. One can almost feel the hair texture, and I like the stare too.
I wish for ANY wild dog in my files- have only seen them once, some years ago while still shooting film, out on the hunt early on an overcast, misty (read too dark) winter morning in Hhluluwe- we opted to enjoy the sighting as it was way too dark to reach for the camera. Thanks for sharing this one.

    Marc,
That is a fabulous picture of a rare beast. The light and background and clarity are all great. The name is more appropriate as "Painted Dog" Lycaeon Pictus....

Marc, I owe you an apology -- just looked it up -- Lycaeon is Greek for WOLF....... Well done on the name and the picture!!

Stunning one Marc! Always difficult to get the eyes on them, but you got it spot-on here. Great image!

Great portrait. Really like how the light and warm color brings out the eyes.

Another beautiful shot, Marc. A nice companion to your running dog shot which blew me a way. Everything here is perfect - ready for an art gallery.

Agree with the above comments. Painted wolf is not a term I have heard.

I like the portrait. Lot of details in the image. I like the eye contact. I have not heard the word painted wolf either. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

you did get the alternative name right and this has got to be the best wild dog portrait I've seen in a long time. superb light, eye contact and shiver factor...

    Marc,

Super portrait. I would only take a bit off the left side.

    Best,

    Chas

You got the title right the first time, Marc, and what a fabulous image of a fast-vanishing 'lesser' carnivore!
