This was shot from boat in the Pantanal,Brazil as the animal moved along the bank.
Thrilling experience and probably one in a lifetime. Needs a little more smoothing of background as I noticed on preview.

Agree with Peter here, square crops never seem to do a nature image justice.
Very nice portrait nonetheless in great light!

Awesome Charles, I was talking to a photographer and these are one of the hardest cats to get a photograph of. Thanks for sharing

Great catch, Chas! Love the eyes - he looks a little sad. Square crop looks fine to me - something different!

I actually try to avoid square crops but thought I would cut out some extra blurred vegetation behind the face-apparently did not work completely.

This is something I will probably never see, so I am very envious. Not only did you see one you had good light.
Without knowing where you have extra canvas it is hard to comment on the crop, if you have space at the bottom I would try a vertical.

What a lucky guy, Chas! I have no problems with square crop, or round crop!

one of my dream animals to get to see, let alone photograph! agree with the square crop not really adding, and some NR needed. must've been a thrill!

Super head shot Charles. I just love great whisker detail in a big cat.

I just cannot wait for my trip there next year. Photographing jaguars in the wild has long been a dream

Congratulations on a beautiful portrait of a beautiful cat, Chas. I like the inquisitive look and the expressive eyes. Please share more if you have.

Really like the colors and the sharp eyes. I also like the foilage on the right hand side as well, like the jaguar is just coming out of the jungle.

Superb. The experience of watching a jaguar in the wild ranks among the top. I like the eye contact and the fact that the face is in the clear. I would prefer to see an environmental portrait of the jaguar than a tight crop. Look forward to more.

    Cheers,
