    Default Western Gull

I saw this Western Gull in Monterey in December. Not long after sunrise, and I really liked the lighting.

Beatifully framed Doug with a wonderful low angle and perch. Also excellent exposure and detail in the darks. On my monitor the head appears a little soft. That is my only nit and you have a great BG in this capture. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice light indeed. I think just a little sharpeining of the eye would help a lot.

Not sure why the eye doesn't look sharp. It's pretty sharp on my display. I'll try some selective sharpening.

Very appealing photo! I like the subdued lighting and the feather details along the back.

Here's a repost with some added sharpening to the eye and a modified version of what Al suggested. How does this compare with the original?

Well done on the repost. Like the BKGR and the pose. It looks as if the sharpest stuff is on the lower back...
