As I did not have a digital image, I scanned this from a print. It was taken on my first trip to HVNP in 19**. I liked the tree coming from the lava field with the lava flows mimicking the roots of the tree.

Modification included; Poster Edge, Dry Brush and Craquelure

    Enjoy!

After posting the above, I wondered what the B&W version would be. So for your added enjoyment.

Same image just converted to B&W. Slight contrast adjustment.

Mark, I might try to take some of the red tones out of the first one. I like the curves of the tree trunk and the "lava roots" are interesting. Maybe just a black frame on the first one.
I like the second one more.

Very nice subject and treatment, Mark. Both versions are good, but personally I prefer the color version. For some reason, the red tones appeal to me.

Mark, I think the base image is wild!!I love the lava flow. I am not crazy about the red tones in the first image. I might de-saturate it. I find the framing distracting.

Mark, I agree with the above comments - maybe a little desaturation on the reds. It's a really cool image.

I like them both, but prefer the black and white version. Amazing how the lava flow does look like tree roots.
