    Default Widgeon

I love the soft call of this duck, and when this male started calling I started photographing him. This is one of a few shots I got of him calling.

Beautiful duck and the image has a very nice color tone. I might tone down the bright spot above the head a bit to better blend in with the rest of the BG color.

Love the calling pose with the raised tongue and I like the way the color tones in the water complement the browns in the bird. As an alternative, you might try cropping from the bottom for more of a pano look. Well done.

    Mike:

Nicely timed here. Attractive duck, with complimentary BG (as mentioned by Steve M) but I do like the blue from the sky reflected in the water, which does help separate the body from the water a bit.

I also agree about trying an alternate crop, up from the bottom. Nice as is, perhaps better with the crop.

    Cheers

Hey Mike: You've captured fantastic feather detail on this wigeon. Great use of F/8 to grab a nice slice of focus and really pull out the strength of that 500 F4. I love the tongue!!! Awesome shot!

P.S. Some good suggestions mentioned above if you don't mind PP time.

Great image with very soft light and excellent sharpness. I think the lighter area behind the head works to accentuate the overall portrait. If it were any brighter it would become distracting, but as is I think it's okay.

Wow! This Wigeon has personality. Did you shoot this with evaluative metering, plus or minus? For handheld, you have very steady hands! Beautiful.

I really like this one! Great presentation of this species. Lovely soft light--lots of detail showing all the bird's colors. The crop works very well for me.

Beautiful shot! Great behaviour, light and low angle. Pitty the image is so small.

Beautiful. I have been unsuccessfully trying to get a good frame of these guys. They are very skittish here. They look like they are easy to expose...but the bill and the forehead get blown out a lot of times. Fantastic job.
