Taken in my backyard setup. 40D, 300mm 2.8L + 1.4 TC, Iso 250, 1/400 sec., f/4.0. Usual photoshop processing with ACR, levels, USM, BG noise reduction. Nothing added or removed.
Nice bird, pose, and BG. The whites on the wings look a little hot. Might also go a little tighter on the right side (as viewed) with a little more room on the left.
Hey Joel - This Jay is a little skinny compared to the ones I see around here. Caught him on a nice little perch with a perfect green background. I like the way its turning its head back for you. Looks like it is checking something out on the ground. I'm guessing the light was pretty tough on this one so like all good photographers you made the best out of the situation.
I like the blurred background versus sharp detail of jay. Your slightly cramped space on the left makes the jay seem a little crowded and annoyed. I like it.
Thanks for all the comments. I agree the white on the wings is hot. I would need to extend canvas on the left, the only crop I made was some off the top. This could be a young bird but it was shot in May 2009 so I would guess he made through one winter. Usually the juveniles around here have less blue and more gray on their head especially. Thanks for your help guys, I'm learning alot just in the last 2 weeks since I joined.
