I photographed this foraging drake Ring-necked Duck from a blind last spring. 40D, 500 f/4 + 1.4X, 1/640, f/6.3, ISO 400. I selected the eye, darkened the pupil, and removed a second catchlight. Comments are welcome.

Wow, one of the better duck portraits I've seen. Lovely light, blue water, and eye contact. You gotta love that eye. Nice and sharp too.

    Well done!

Beautiful close-up Steve. BPN provides the most awesome duck shots ever and yours adds to the roster. Aidan already mentioned what makes this a great image. Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Nice looking duck. Texture of the bill and the water drops on the feathers makes me want to reach out and touch it. Nice light and colors as well.

Bravo! Very rare to see the ring on a Ring-Necked Duck. This shot feels like you were about six inches from the bird, and at the same eye level. Hope your waders did not leak. Thanks for a great shot!

Excellent portrait. Hard to get that close to any of them. Water drops just add to it!
