Default Theme: Landscape - Half Dome & River Merced

Earlier this week I spent a day photographing at Yosemite NP. It still feels like Autumn there in the valley although the upper reaches are closed out because of snow. The river has very little flow and not yet frozen and is ideal for getting reflections of the major rock faces in the park. Over the years, I probably have taken many hundred images of Half Dome but this time it was different... with lengthening shadows of the afternoon it is sometime hard to get correct exposure so I tried multiple exposures and merged it together in CS4. The nice contrast gave me the idea to use it as b/w in Ansel Adam's style! Applied few adjustment layers, lens vignette and final usm. Hope you like it...

Indranil, You are so lucky to spend the time in Yosemite. Half Dome and the Merced River are lovely. I like the B&W conversion. The reflection is lovely. It has a very soft calm look to it.

Quite a stunning image Indranil, really like the snow on the top of Half Dome. Very beautiful.

I like the composition, Indranil, but the B&W looks a little flat to me. IMO some more contrast would be good to help bring out the light and dark tones.

Hi Christopher, I see your point. I have reworked the image to get more contrast. Here is a repost....

    Hi Indranil

Don't want to be contrary, however, I prefer the original with its focus on the majestic look of Half Dome.

    Beautiful capture

    Thanks for sharing

Indranil, This is great. I like them both. Half Dome looks great and the mood created is super.
