This pregnant moose fell through the ice as she tried to cross the Chilkat River, 15 miles north of Haines, Alaska. She swam over to one of her rescuers, and let him pet her for a minute or so. Six men went out onto the ice, lassoed her with a large rope, then pulled her up out of the river. For the last 20 to 30 minutes before we were able to pull her out, we had to hold her head above water so she could breathe. After she was pulled to safety, she got up and walked off and into the woods.
