    Question IPod/IPhone Choice and Aps

    Hi All,

    My first post.

I am writing my Xmas list and I am interested in being able to carry Bird Guides and play bird sounds. I searched the internet and was mildly surprised to find several choices amongst the Aps and even what appear to be separate enhancements to basic apps. The ones that I read advertised that they were for Ipods but I understood that the Iphone touch would run all the Ipod aps.

So can anyone tell me which device and software aps I want. Any applicable reviews of avian aps out there?

Go to the iTunes App Store and search various topics. You can access the store via iTunes, free software for Mac or PC. I use iBird Plus ($20) and there is a Pro version for $30. There are also a number of apps to hep with sunrise, sunset, moonrise, tides, etc. I use the built in GPS function to help me geo tag all my images. I use a $5 app, GeoLogTag, to geo tag all my photos. Most all the apps for the iPhone will work with the iPod Touch.

I use my phone for many other photo related uses as well. I teach photography and I keep a pdf of all the recent Canon and Nikon camera manuals on my phone. I also carry several photo related books on my phone for long flights etc. I also keep several instructional videos on various cameras and photoshop techniques on the phone as well. The phone is also my "instant" portfolio when a student or client wants to see some of my work.

iBird Plus is a great app, but I haven't thrown out my NG field guide or Sibley's. I do look a little like Hugh Laurie when I shave my mustache.
