Default Burrowing Owl, Florida - pic and video

Evening all, I just finished processing some photos I took of the Burrowing Owls in Florida - plus, I also just put the finishing touches to a video I made to show the experience. It's something I want to start doing more of, showing the process involved in getting the shots I take. It's only my second video (and first one that actually required editing lots of clips) so bare with me as I know I still have lots to learn of this new skill...oh and I have never had a good 'reading' voice in my opinion but I'm hoping it all comes together and works ok...!?!

You can view the video here.

And here is one of my favourites, more can be seen on the same link above. Enjoy :)

    Richard:

Soft light, sharp, well exposed. Nice to see them in greenery, as most of mine were taken in the winter, much duller and browner back grounds.

In concept I like the bit of plant behind the bird showing, but the location is just a bit bothersome to me.

I spent a couple of days on Cape Coral, and there are many opportunities there, but you have to work it a bit to get the best lighting of course.

Enjoyed the video, would certainly be helpful to folks who haven't worked these guys before.

    Cheers

Randy, I know exactly what you mean about the plant and I did think about cloning it out. However, I'm not a huge fan of cleaning up images too much and in this case decided to leave it alone as it represents the habitat the owl lives in - I know what you mean though :)

    Richard:

I appreciate your minimal cloning position. I think that one of the reasons it jumps out more is that just behind it is one of the brightest spots on the background. Perhaps just a bit of subtle lowering of the luminosity behind the plant would leave it intact, but not quite to noticeable.

This is pretty soft, but I also think the fact that it angles away from bird, so its line is in opposition to the line of the birds back, tends to make it more attention grabbing.

Thanks Randy, appreciate your thoughts - I'll go back and have a look at what I can do with the original just to tone down the offending area a fraction :)

Great Shot! I like the vertical composition such a pretty setting. I would agree about maybe cloning out the OOf plant in the bg.

Nice pose and great detail. I'd agree with dealing with that plant in some fashion, either toning down the luminosity, cloning or adding more blur.
