Photographed this fledgling about a month ago on a private property of friends in western Sydney. They had a colony residing for years nesting on the neighbor's property in the same nest too.
I carefully stalked the adults and two fledglings as they scurried around the bushes in the horse paddocks and lay low to get a good perspective. This little fellow still has to develop the long, curved bill that is characteristic of the adults. See an adult I posted earlier here.
30D, 300/4L + 1.4x, ISO800, f/6.3, 1/320th, HH, no flash, 80% of FF. patched a couple of sand spots on the plumage.

Akos, Really nice details and totally cute! Beautiful soft BG colors compliment your fledgling perfectly. Will this young one have a red eye like the adult in the link?
Denise, I have recently learned that the adults' eyes turn red when excited, so my guess is yes, for sure this little one will do the same in time. They are still around as of last weekend and getting to look more like the parents.
Finally another post from you, Hungarian Brother. You have your signature on this one as well; getting close to have the least amount of crop, interesting subject (very cute indeed), nice detail, colors, good exposure and sweet BG. Well done.
Interesting-looking bird, I would love to see an image of the entire bird sometime. I like the eye contact and sharpness and would try to get some details in the blacks on the neck.
I hope it's in order to raise a point of discussion here. Axel has commented on possibly bringing out more detail in the neck area, as did I. On my 24" Dell 2407 LCD screen, when I look directly at the image, these areas are dark but when I look from about 45 deg either side the detail is there. When I print the image the detail that I can see from the angle on the screen is in the print. The calibration strip at the bottom of this page shows a similar effect. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks.
Happy if one of the mods moves this to a more appropriate location.
Lovely shot Akos, I can already see the adult character in this young bird. Nice portrait.
I can imagine the sound that surrounded you as you came in close. :)
I feel you have captured good detail in the darker plumage Bro. I like the tufts of beige on the head, and overall nice and sharp. Stands out nicely against the lighter BG. Well captured mate.
Wow, that's a close up. Well done. I like the way you have left lots of room on the right so even though it is a close up, it does not feel too tight. Dave
