I've had a few opps with a couple of these guys so far.
D300 , 400 2.8afs w/1.4tc, iso800, f4, 1/400, man exp.

Hi Todd - I love your composition here which follows the pose of the flicker very nicely. I think the flicker is one of our most photogenic birds and this is no exception. Bokeh is really nice here as well and I love the way the bird is out on the little branch from the main. I rarely remove anything from my images but I expect you might here something about the little branch hanging down in front of the subjects bill (smile) and I have to say that I wouldn't mind seeing the photo without that ornery little piece of vegetation.
I like the pose, eye contact and soft light. Good crop idea, I might crop even more off the top as the branch in the upper left competes with the subject.
