    Default Loneliness (Reworked in HDR)

Those who've been following my growth will know I'm slowly but surely developing my own style of incorporating HDR techniques into wildlife shots.

I've taken one of my favourite photos previously posted as a B+W image (http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=46226) and reworked it in this way.

This is the colour version. I like it a lot too, but I have reworked the B+W version as well using this method and believe it's even more striking now...will upload it tomorrow.

Please give me honest critique - do you like, and why - or don't you like, and why.

Shot in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

    Techs:
    Canon 1000D with 18-55mm IS
    f16 @ 1/250 SS @ ISO-200

Morkel - The beast looks plain downtrodden as framed in this image and with a little anthropomorhism thrown you actually feel sorry for it. You have conveyed that well. Now about that sky. I would describe it as "surreal" and a bit grainy, almost drawn in. If it were toned down to a smooth, light blue with the same clouds, the photo would be more pleasing to me but also more conventional. As is, I see this as a bit of an art piece. Can't wait to see the B & W. Keep up the cool postings that make BPN even more interesting.

The comp rocks for me bro! Totally cool! I love the HDR effect but do feel the sky is a bit too over the top. Just my 2c. I love the overall feel though and good on ya for doing something new. :)

I like this one as it is, Morkel. For me the Kalahari is a "too" place- too big, too dry, too harsh- and too beautiful:). I think your image conveys that. Well done with your HDR work, its getting to be a signature.

Agree with Akos here Morkel, the sky is just too saturated for my taste, taking nothing away from this very nice image overall.

    Hi Morkel
lovely reworked image... can see more clarity/detail in subject and FG, agree about the sky being a tad to blue...
would also suggest a slight crop on RHS were the FG begins to slope off...

thanks so much for the kinds comments Danny, Akos, Peter & Betsie...

here is a repost with the sky saturation toned down some and cropped a bit from the right and top a la Mr Delaney :)

I created this as a visually impacting piece of art (at least in my own eyes, haha) so I personally prefer the original post colours. I also do LOVE the B&W of this particular shot, which shows the natural textures so much better...will post that tomorrow...

Morkel, it's been a while since I have seen an image I have really liked and I like this one. The combination of the sky and the solo Wildebeest is really good IMHO, however, I prefer the second version cropped, but the saturation of the first. It is good to see someone developing their own 'style'! Lets see what tomorrow brings with the B/W.

Hey Mork, perfect placement of the wildebeest, and I like the overall space in this. In your OP, the sky looked good to me, but I see your repost does actually work better with regards to the saturation of the blue.
