After a many-years-long political battle, it seems that the Harbor Seals at Children's Cove, LaJolla,CA are safe from both the city and the over-protective animal zealots.

The Harbor Seal was photographed with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens, the 1.4X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/200 sec. at f/11.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

Good detail here Artie, with the chest sand framing her nicely. Wondering if the black eye patch is her real coat or a molt?

Beautiful capture with a wonderful straight on pose and eye contact. I love these harbor seals and I am very glad to hear that they are being protected Artie. I saw a couple while in Kodiak this summer. Thanks for sharing this info with us.

I like the close crop and the color and detail. I especially like the sand on her chest. Nice to here they have some protection.

Thanks all. Marc, the dark is an area of dry fur. The wet areas are always way-light.

Not sure. I was a long way off; that usually happens when you are very close..... The other folks were well off to my left...
