    Default Peaceful Dove

Decided to put my MKIII away for the day and go back to the MKII, focus was a tad slower but more definite.

It was also the first time I've used a hide, mixed feelings about the process but will be useing it a lot more in the future as the pre - wet season humidity is a real killer at the moment.

    1D MKII - EF 500 f/4.0

ISO 250 f/5.6 1/640 RAW. Most processing done in ACR except for boosting the neutrals and blacks slightly and a small ammount of smart sharpening in PS.

This is a tough one to critique. I really like the perch and like to see all of it, but there is also a lot of space in the picture now. However, I like the BG a lot, the angled colours give a pleasing interest to the picture. Maybe try cropping the bottom off and halving the space behind the tail.
Could be a very striking image of a very simple subject.

Thanks Graeme, aint crops a bit*h, some like 'em, some don't, it's always been that way and I imagine will remain the same.

Bird looks sharp and I like the shooting angle. I am also not sure about the composition. Bird is a bit centred and small in the frame. Would consider a tigher horizontal crop. I also feel that the perch is slightly dominant but I guess you can't do much about it. You can however, clone out the dark area at the BG right above the bird which is also a bit distracting IMO.

I like the perch and the way the bird is sitting on it. I would like to see the Eye a little better, but not a big deal. I like the light colors in the background, but it would be great if the dark spot were a little lighter. Cropping the image so that the bird is off center like Graeme said.

Nice pic Richard. I do feel by getting closer to make the bird bigger, off centering it as well, and selecting a nicer, more appealing and evenly colored BG, your image will lift in aesthetic quality to a higher level (and you save oodles of unnecessary photoshop cloning). Thanks for sharing. :) looking forward to more
