    Default An alert Scrub Hare

Taken early morning in Samburu, Kenya about 7.30am which is surprising for this little fellow, as they would be easy pickings for the big raptors that are around. Taken from the passenger seat of the jeep, this fellow was quite at ease, however I hope this illustrates just how alert they are. The cropping of the legs really doesn't worry me, as I wanted the focus point on the eye first and foremost, with the light secondary, emphasizing the ears, conveying this 'alert' status.

    That's all folks...

Hi Steve The focus of the image is as you say on the ears .. and face in general, still would like to have seen the legs, would have made a difference !!!

Great exposure and captured mood !!!

Great shot, Steve. I love the ears and the eye as well as the long whiskers. Excellent pose as well.

Well Steve, this is an animal not often photographed, as it is usually only out at night and tends not to stand still for long!

I am not bothered about the absence of legs in fact I might consider cropping more from the bottom, both the eyes and ears are majestic.

Agree with Ken here, would improve if you cropped out the remaining portion of the legs altogether.
Great light shining thru those huge ears! Well captured.

    Thanks guys & gals.

Ken, spot on. As I said this is unusual to see them out so late, however I am not complaining.

I think it is what we call a 'marmite' shot, you love it or hate it:-) Interesting that the response is almost identical to other comments received and almost split 50/50.

    Thanks again.

Love the lighting in this one and agree the legs would strengthen this capture.

The backlit ears puts this over the top, and IMHO, cropping below the whiskers would make this even better

I like the light coming through the ears. Also like how the color of the eye almost matches the color in the ears.

I like the glowing ears and vibrant eye. Would've preferred feet but could also go with a tighter crop on the head.

Steve, the backlit ears and eye contact are great, as others have mentioned. I too would crop up a bit from the bottom, probably right at the point where the down-pointing whiskers stop. That would remove the missing feet as a distraction, and would put even more emphasis on the eye and spectacular ears.
