This image has what could be flaws; the hawk blocking full view of its attacker the primary one. The nictating membrane of the hawk is visible, obviously to prevent eye damage, and this could be thought of as interesting, or not.The square format, one that I don't use very often, seemed appropriate. I have other images in a series with the birds separated and thus more conventional, but this one sort of stood out. comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill

Technically I think this is a well executed shot. The position of the head of the hawk tells a story, but part of the crow being hidden by the hawk itself makes this not the best shot to tell the true story, i.e., the hawk is being bothered by a crow.
You can feel the excitement in this shot. Really like the "whoops, what have we here" look of the hawk's face and nice blue BG. As you noted, just too bad can't see more of the attacker. Bet it was fun to shoot!
Really good behavior shot, I don't mind at all that the hawk membrane is visible, it shows that the hawk is being under attack. I might go for more horizontal crop but that just personal taste. You really did well with the exposure, both the white bird and the black bird. Wish you see more of the attacker face, or maybe with more attacking action/pose.
No problem with the points you brought up !! I like the Hawk looking at the bird, membrane wise we always like seeing the eye but its sort of neat showing the behavior. Crop is what it is, just fine as presented.
Ideally would be a stronger image if the attacker was visible but this has lots of impact ... love the wing position on both !!1
