BP511 battery question?

I just popped 2 Bp511 batteries that had not been charged since July into the Canon charger--almost immediateky the charger indicated both were fully charged. I thought batteries drained a bit over time--especially 5 or 6 months. Am I wrong?

Batteries do drain over time, the rate of discharge is dependent on the temperature and humidity where they are stored. The condition you describe sounds as though the batteries may have discharged a little too much. Try 3 or 4 times to get them to charge normally. Remove the battery from the charger, unplug the charger from the wall and then plug the charger back into the wall and insert the battery into the charger again. After several tries the battery should start charging normally. Sometimes car chargers are more effective at getting exhausted batteries to recharge. It is also best to monitor the batteries for several minutes for excessive heat. Heat is the worst enemy of a battery and excessive heat, either in storage or charging, can shorten a batteries life. If the battery becomes hot when held in the had discontinue charging and allow the battery to cool to room temperature before starting to charge again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I managed to revive one battery--but the other still seems to be troublesome. I managed to leave the car charger at home so i will try it when I get back. I have two good batteries so it is not any sort of a crisis...
