    Cheetah chasing Gazelle

    Hi all,

I have not long returned from the annual trip to Kenya in search of more wildlife images. This one is my personal best from this years wildlife images. The Cheetah had spent most of the day lying in the shade and then in the space of about two minutes it stalked, chased and ultimately killed this Gazelle.

    C&C welcome.

Canon 1DMK3, f5.6, 1/5000, ISO 400. ( It all happened so quickly that I had no time to change the ISO ).

    Cheers

    Austin

Congratulations on this outstanding action image. I believe you had the correct ISO as 1/5000 is just about right to stop the action. The outstretched paw of the Cheetah and frightened expression of the Gazelle really illustrate the raw nature of Africa.

The intensity of this image is nothing short of AMAZING! The stare and determination of the Cheetah coupled with the absolute fear and scream (you can hear the Gazelle!) makes this a very big winner!! Congratulations on an amazing capture.
    Cheers, Jay

    Austin,

If anything else had won I would have eaten my hat (and it is a dirty old safari one)

Still nothing short of amazed by this, please tell us you have entered it in some competitions.

When I first saw this image I know it was going to be IOY 1st or 2nd, the expression of fear in the gazelle and control in cheetah is so strong...One of th finest wildlife photos I have ever seen. congrats.
