These delightful and colourful pigeons came to drink at a waterhole on Surpise Creek in Bladensburg NP south of Winton, Queensland. You would hear a flurry of wing beats and one Spinifex Pigeon would land some metres back from the waters edge..survey the scene then quickly proceed forward and as it did four of five others would land in quick sequence then quickly they would all approach the water to drink. Individuals as this one did might pause for a few moments affording ample opportunity for images to result. Very exciting experience to see these spectacular birds at close quarters.

Good low angle, Rod. Light angle not ideal but despite that you have got nice light on the near side of the face and eye to show off the textured skin and eye detail. A larger aperture to blur out the BG and gain better separation from the bird may have been nice. Very cool bird. Behaviour sounds typical pigeon/sandgrouse at a water hole.

An interesting story Rod, and it does sound exciting. I like the pose and well done in what looks like pretty bright light. Interesting bg, although Tony does have a good suggestion about changing aperture. Dave

This is a very good-looking dove species. I like the attentive pose, raised feathers and eye contact. Was a lower angle possible? I'm asking since the BG is complementing but a bit distracting.
