Welcome to my Trip Report for Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge for the Month of November 2009. This update is being posted 11/18/09 while at Bosque del Apache NWR in NM. I will be photographing at MINWR when I return so will be posting more about the going-ons at the refuge then.
You can see the full report including the map I mention below on my blog at http://www.wildscapeimages.biz/blog/?page_id=169.
November continues were October left off - tons of action with it mostly centered near the impoundments between S2 and S3 in the map below.
The images below taken on Black Point Wildlife Refuge will refer to my graphic of the refuge's main drive where I photograph most. Stops along the drive and labeled S1, S2 and so forth.
Large flocks of White Pelicans are present at the refuge. I had a group of 20 or so land at the impoundment just east of S3. After making many images of them feeding, I notice some readying to leave but was not able to get into place before the first group left in a direction slightly away from me. When this happens, the head is angled away from the camera and not pleasing. I moved quickly and was ready for the second and final group flying off. That moved paid off as I got a good head angle – see below.
