Taken from inside my vehicle on a bean bag. I cropped it this way to get all the reed in the image.

Ben, excellent exposure on the blacks, showing good detail. I like the curved bullrush, and overall, this is really sharp. Your BG couldnt have been any smoother. Well captured.
Sweet image Ben. Love the colos pose perch and BG.
Only wish for a bit more room the the left and bottom.
Lovely curved perch, pose and BG, Ben. Dust bunny top right would be a one click healing brush job.

Man thats a good eye. I was going to challange this until I viewed it 100% and moved the image around (a trick I use to find dust spots). I found it, and 2 others. Now fixed, but not worth a repost here. But the 100% is much larger than the posted image, so your eye is really sharp.
Tiny bit more room as mentioned Ben, but otherwise, this is very, very good and has great details. Lovely!
A very all around eye pleasing image. Good job. I have the same camera body. Always nice to see you don't have to have the top of line cameras, to achieve top rated images. :)
Hi Ben, Wow I think this is nice. Your exposure looks spot on as I see good detail throughout including the blacks. The image looks sharp. I love the perch and like your crop to include all of the reed. Good head angle and background that compliments the bird very nicely. Tony has better eyes than I do:). All good here. Thanks for sharing.
Great job on a tough exposure. Great looking bird!
Why did you remove the image?
I am not seeing the image here.
I don't understand, I still see the original, but in case this is a fluke, here is a new post, this one has the dust spots removed, but I did not take down the old one.

Excellent techs in here! Agree with the the suggestions regarding the composition.
Now I see it, thanks! I like the sharpness, details in the blacks, eye contact and BG and would desaturate the yellows a few points.
Thanks all for replies and suggestions.
Nicely presented image. I like the full inclusion of the cattail. Great job on the blacks. Yellows are slightly hot, and Axel's suggestion to desat them a bit would take care of that. Here's a great thread on dealing wth yellows:

I am fine with the yellows. I only suggest a bit more of room on right and a little less on top, just my opinion.
Love the light and head angle in this one. Killer BG. Congrats on a fine image.
Lovely looking species, the exposure is so very good and so is the lighting and BG.

Very beautiful, perch makes this shot very special, all other techs perfect. TFS

perfect pose, details are good, nice light and BG.. congrats..
Wow, a pretty good turn out for this image. Thanks all for comments and suggestions.
About the yellows. They look ok on my monitor, but I am sure the sRGB version posted here is right at the edge and probably has a couple of blown spots. The PSD file in Prophoto RGB is fine of course and I check each image now for blown yellows and reds prior to conversion, but often there is blown stuff after conversion. I process primarily for printing, and this will print fine if a tad darker than on a display.
Processing for web is a different game and one I am still learning. The trick is to know how much clipping you will get when you convert to 8 bit and a smaller gamut.
One other thing, my NEC monitor is wide gamut and does not display sRGB unless specifically set (uncalibrated mode). I also use Safari, which is color space aware. Not sure how all this works, but I wonder if I am seeing the same way others are seeing?
Edit. I just pulled up the jpg into CS3 and checked the channels with Threshold. I have a few dots at 255, but they are just dots, no areas. Surprisingly, most of these were whites not yellows.

This is a good idea, I think you are the only one who said add to the right. But if I also added to the left and took some off the top, I could get a better aspect ratio. I tend to crop my birds tight to show off the detail, but in this case a larger crop might work well.
Here is a redo incorporating suggestions. I pulled teh yellows back almost to 240. I added space below, left and right, and took off the top for a 2/3 aspect ratio.
I like it better. I even like the yellows better, they seem to have more definiton.
