This morning at 9:24 AM I caught this long-billed curlew napping, or trying to. I know it was a curlew because it walked away, displaying its looong beak, shortly thereafter. Before that, however, I watched for a few minutes to see its eyes open and close regularly -- I chose the half-open-eye exposure to post. I did very little PP on it. Does the image "work" with this much mono-color?

i dont know if it was some harsh light or oversharpening, but something looked amiss here. i tried my hand at it to see if i could make it better. this is what i came up with. a tough one for sure. cropped for composition, got rid of the color cast, NR on the bg, and toned down the entire image. went back at the end and added a little brilliance and warmth. the save for web seemed to really mute the good colors.

I like it MR H - original seemed a little flat.

if you get the opportunity Wendell - make sure you work the situation well - moving around to try different angles etc. The dead plant on the LHS doesn't do much for me - would have tried to minimize it when taking the shot perhaps by changing my position.

    Looking forward to more ;)

    Hi Wendell,
The light was extremely harsh, and the colors don't seem right...The Doctor's repost makes it better...keep them coming...

    Hi Wendell

Even by nine thirty light was harsh already !!! ... I like the re post with more contrast I think flat on the ground would have been the best angle for that bg !!!

Harold, your repost is a big improvement over my post. I hope I've learned something from your good example.
