I don't particularly like giving up on a shoot just because the 'light' didn't show up...especially when I stood up at 04h30 and driven almost 100km to get there...!! :)

This was taken on a foggy morning at the Marievale Bird Sanctuary near Johannesburg in South Africa. I was there hoping to shoot malachite kingfishers with Mark Dumbleton and Kobus Tollig and we explored some different shots when the fog didn't lift...

Please feel free to let me know what you like or dislike here. I like the mood and depth. Dialed down K in RAW to a cooler blue.

Lovely image Morkel. Has great feel and mood to it. Love the line the birds create, adding to the sense of depth.

I like your self critique. Great DOF and a very lovely mood captured in this image. You did well in a very difficult situation and it is well composed. Congratulations Morkel

Morkel, Nice mood and a very nice shade of blue. I also like the line created by the birds.

Like the feel of this image, I might play with exposure a little bit to see how it would look like. TFS

    Morkel:

Agree with the others. The heron in the background pulls it together for me. I am with Arash on working the exposure. I would prefer another 1/2 stop or so exposure, but it certainly is moody as is.

Hey Mork, my take on this. I really like the setting, but what I would like to see is the heron all alone in this. Leave him where he is, but chase away ther coots. Yes?? - No??

    Morkel:

I think it is better with a little more exposure. Stuart has an interesting idea, about losing the coots. It depends in my mind whether the leading line of the vegetation and interest in the foreground is enough to get you back to the heron without the coots?

Might be worth a quick try. I think you would need to crop up some from the bottom to make it work.

Thats the fun of photography, so many options.

    Randy
