This is one of many hummingbird images from my friends place in Costa Rica. The BG is natural. All comments are appreciated.

WOW. loved the perch and the cleanliness. The details in dark are also very very good. The convex-concave composition makes it very special.

Always nice to get images of hermits perched. This one is sweet! I'd crop a bit tighter if it was mine...

Great shot! A Better Beamer could make this picture shine.

Jim, the mirroring arcs making for quite a strong composition. Very pleasing overall. Normally when the eye is nicely focussed (as you have done here) I don't mind where the DOF falls, but in this case I would have liked to have seen a smaller aperture to get the whole perch and lichens sharp too. Still, very well done - very pleasing colours, and a great BG too. I'd be more than happy with this in my files :-)

P.S. I agree with Glenn for a slightly tighter crop.

Beautiful detail and color and a lovely BG. I agree about cropping a tad more and as Daniel mentioned a smaller aperture would be nice here. Fine work and many thanks for sharing.

What a nice hummer! Love the comp, hummer is a bit dark and can take more sharpening.

Background compliments the hummer beautifully ,but would like to see the subject a little brighter

Sharp, nice pose and BG. Agree regarding cropping a bit more. Going a bit higher ISO would have allowed you to close the aperture for some more DOF for the perch. I see no reason to use such a low ISO in low light situations. I don't own a 30D but I am sure it can handle iso 400 and even higher without any noise problem.

I like the colour on the HB, and you have captured a good pose. This shows nicely, how long their beaks actually are. Comp wise, this screams a vertical for me. Well captured Jim

A beaut Jim! Like what you have done here. some very good suggestions made to enhance further and to get more when next the opp presents itself. Can't add anything else other than to acknowledge the 30D is plenty good enough at 400. TFS
