Hi Craig - you have cut poor Mr Bitterns foot off - Ouch :)
Best to not have cut appendages - when you do always best to have it as a deliberate cut at a joint, usually done as a compositional tool.
On my screen looks a little bright/contrasty and perhaps a tad over sharpened.
Might clean up a few of the background sticks - the one that is coming out of the head/neck especially.
Keep at it - looking forward to seeing more :)
Hi Craig,
Mr. Peters sound advise is right on the money...I like the slight head turn, would have liked to have seen a lower capture angle...keep them coming...
Craig: Lance's good advice notwithstanding, you've managed to capture a bird that I have difficulty even spotting, much less getting in the camera. Nicely done -- just a few good points from Lance to work on next time you see the Bittern.
Craig - big congrats on having the camera ready when you spotted this bird. In my mind seeing a bittern, as opposed to hearing one, is a rare event and to have the camera at the ready is great. Good position on the bird and reasonable HA.
You might want to sharpen the bird a tad, it looks a little soft to me? I wonder about the color. For a bittern, it looks a bit too orange, but that may be the light.
Too bad about the foot - bummer
Cheers
Gail
Hi Craig Capturing one in the opening is a big deal !!! Good catch !!
Great points made ... particularly the foot !! Also seems to have a cast? btw tech wise do increase the ISO I know the D2X is not the best for noise but 1/60 is kind of slow ... you should be safe to at least 320 !!
good points made above, but this guy is a rarity and i'd love to have it!! dont know if a lower perspective was possible, but might have helped too!!
Hi Lance and all BPN fellos photo buffs, thanks for the good advice and pointers, my photoshop skills are limited but learning. Took photo at Ridgefield Wildlife Area. A excellent area for Bittern. have many other images of them.
