    Default Oryx Sunset (HDR) #2

Okay seeing as the silhouette version left a lot to be desired for due to the oryx wasn't very clearly defined, I decided to revisit the shot and create an HDR from it (which is a lot closer in resemblance to how I saw it on the day).

Your suggestions and critiques are most welcome...

    Techs:
    Techs:
    Canon 40D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 210mm
    f5.6 @ ISO-500
4-image HDR in Photomatix, further PP in CS3

Hi Morkel: I like this better than the original silhouette although I liked that shot as well even though it seemed a bit abstract, even for a silhouette image. The ball-of-fire works for me on this shot as it is filtered well though the grass on the plains. It makes me think of starting a controlled burn for some reason. The oryx is just a beautiful animal and it is nicely composed here. The background sky is a little peculiar, as it was in the original. It still seems a little harsh as sunset backgrounds go. Finally, I should mention that there are pretty strong halos around the animal's horns as seen on my laptop. Take care.

    thanks for the feedback Danny...

the sky is as shot, with a little saturation due to the HDR process. it was a very fierce sunset.
no halos around the horns on my calibrated desktop 21" screen??

Looking at it again now on my 24" monitor and dad-burn that oryx looks cool! Thanks for working so hard on this one Morkel. I've been enjoying your HDR efforts.

This is much better than the silhouette, because the colors isolate the subject from the weeds. I will try a wildlife's HDR next month, on your honor :)

thanks for looking again Danny, and thanks Fabs - I'm afraid you might end up doing a much better job than I if your landscape HDRs are anything to go by ;)

Hey Mork, I would darken this a bit. I feel it would have more impact. Halfway between your OP and this. I cant try it now, but would love to see the outcome. Cheers mate.

The repost is pretty cool Morkel. Definitely softened the sky a little. I'm going with this one.

Morkel, I too am going with the darker version. It has a very ethereal feel to it - would definitely make a great poster. :-)
