This image isn't useful for a whole lot other than I was happy to capture it :)

This is a large crop (subject was about 20% of a horizontal frame) at high ISO and in lousy lighting.

The bird had been flying about 20' over the surface of the water into the wind and all of a sudden it rolled into a dive and I followed.

Love the diving pose Jim and the way it pops from the sea. Nicely done.

    Jim:

You and the camera did well, under the trying conditons. ISO 1600 is looking pretty good here, detail pretty darn good for this crop and ISO.

Wonderful pose. Looks like a dart ready to hit the water.

Hope your weather perks up while the gannets are still about.

    Cheers
    Randy

The high ISO and huge crop are holding up well (at least for web presentation). This is the closest to a paper airplane I've seen any bird look like!! Very cool diving pose, and the breaking wave behind it is good bonus too.

Great aerodynamic diving posture Jim, and very well done for getting him in the frame. Im sure he was diving at a fair rate.

Amazing posture, great sharpness for the low shutter speed. Well done in difficult light conditions!

Great catch, Jim. And it looks quite good for iso 1600 on the D300s.

Hi Jim, the image is very useful - we have all enjoyed your capture!

Assuming that you did a burst as compared to a single shot perfectly timed capture, what frame number was this is the capture burst?

Lovely exposure - you hit the whites perfectly.
    Cheers, Jay

What a great achievement to have captured this pose at this speed, Jim. It must have been exciting just to view this type of behavior/action.
