The PK is in all probability the bird I photgraphed the most during the past year. Here is a shot with him emerging from the water with catch. Photograph taken at the Mankwe hide in the Pilanesberg National Park.

Great timing to catch the PK erupting form the hole in the water, Gerrie. I like the alarmed look on the fish's face! Warm tones on the ripples behind the bird are a small distraction that it may be possible to desaturate.

This is an awesome action shot! I know how difficult it is to get such a shot of the Pied Kingfisher as I tried to do it myself quite a few times. Is it a big crop?

A lower angle would have really put this image over the top.

Nice capture! Kingfishers are not easy subjects.

Oh man, I love the fact the KF is emerging from the water towards us. Even the fish is facing the right way! I'm sure this was not easy to pull off - I'm also sure you wished for less harsh light...but awesome image nonetheless!!

Hey Gerrie, great timing, and good to see a decent size catch for him. Well exposed too.

Gerrie I think you can now stop photographing PK's you have excelled yourself I don't think it will get better than this. The warm refraction colors on the water does not bother me, the harsh light is an indication that PK hunt at their best with overhead sun, they spot the fish better, after all it is their livelyhood and your pleasureable hobby. Well done Gerrie !!!!

Thank you for viewing & commenting everyone. It is much appreciated. The warm colours in the water is caused by water weed.
