This is a small crop from a set-up in my backyard. I would use a smaller branch in the future. The purple in the BG is lilacs in bloom in the distance. I hope to learn to better my shots on this site. All suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to BPN! You are very lucky to have these guys in your yard. I would love to have them in mine.

Nice exposure, BG, and HA. The perch isn't very attractive. In the future, I would choose a smaller and more attractive perch. Toe see some excellent examples check out some of Alan Murphy's oriole images. For this image I might crop a bit from the bottom to minimize the perch.

The light angle also isn't the best. Next time try to have the sun directly behind you. From what I can see, it seems like the light angle would have been better if you had moved/set up your blind a few feet your left.

    Looking forward to more!

Thanks Aidan. I was sitting out in the open. I sacrificed the light angle to get the lilac bush in the BG. I have to come up with a more portable set-up.

Such a pretty bird! I love the background. That purple really adds to it.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. I burned the hotspot and re-cropped the image. I don't know how you resubmit the altered image within the post.

Great idea to try and get the lilac in the bg Jim. The purple really sets off the orange in the oriole. I think you are on the right track with a smaller perch for next year. Otherwise this is very nice.
