This IS a wild rabbit. I'm calling it a her...don't really know:p Over the summer, I bgan to see her almost every evening, as I freshened up my bird feeders and birdbaths, eating beneath the feeders, along side a few squirrels, Canada Geese and an ocasional Cotton Rat (mixed feelings about this one) I was amazed that the rabbit dd not bolt upon seeing me, especially since I was walking a short distance away. I left her alone, but would talk to her as I went about my routine. At first, I tried to make a slight detour, to the feeders to give her a comfortable safety zone, but then just started walking straight to the feeders, as it was apparant she was getting use to my routine. After a couple of weeks, I just could not resist temptation, and squating low, inched slowly closer, offering her a baby carrot. The very first time, she approached, very cautiously, and came very close, but changed her mind. The next evening, I tried agin, and she took the carrot! :D As time progressed, when I opened my back door, she would actually run toward me, then always slow her approach at bit when she got really close to me. Most of the time, she would take the carrot and scamper back a few feet to eat her treat, but occasionally would stay right there, eating her carrot, so close that I could here her munching on the carrot. Needless to say, I was thrilled to have found a little bond with this wild creature.

In this picture, I placed my little stepping stool in my Hummingbird Garden where I thought Bunny might come. I then set my camera up on my tripod, sat on the stool, and within a minute took this picture with my radio remote shutter release.

Hi Glenda: How cool to have an intrepid little bunny hanging around the yard and eating from your hand! Is it the same one you posted in Wildlife? Oh, and I like your flip flops.

Yes, It is the same rabbit. I got alot of up close portraits of her. I have not seen her for several weeks, but startled one turning an outside light on after dark, this week. I'm hoping it was her, and she has decided to hang out in a neighbor's yard that has a nice garden, rather than meeting with ill-fate. Those flip-flops are cool...they light up in the dark, actually scared the rabbit, one evening at dusk, as they are almost like a strobe effect when I walk.

This was a wonderful story Glenna and a great way to start the morning reading this. I have always thought that you had a special bond with nature. It is obvious through your posts of bluebirds and other images how much you truly love nature and wildlife and that is obviously being reciprocated Love this and thanks for sharing with us Glenna.

Yep, Alfred...maybe in the spring, I will see more bunnies, and it would not bother me in the least. I did have to put some chicken wire around the base of two of my hummer plants, as Bunny had a sweet tooth for the stalk and leaves. I had quite a few others that she did not bother. She would be eating the coneflower, with me standing a few feet away, but I did not want to scold her, and risk her turning her back to me, completely. The things we do for our yard friends! lol

Thanks for all the nice comments, to all. Axel, I do have a few very short video clips of Bunny taking the carrot from my hand, and a funny one of a "Face Off" between the rabbit and a squirrel. I was laughing outloud, as I watched. The rabbit was eating beneath a bird feeder with a squirrel close by. All seemed okay, until a second squirrel approached, and this seemed to be a bit more than what Bunny was willing to share. She suddenly lurched at the squirrel with her hind haunches erect. lol I posted them on the web for my family to see, if you want to take a look. Not great quality, just taken with my point and shoot camera. I did just post another picture of Bunny in the wildlife forum, eating my Coneflower. http://glendasphotojournalfavorites.shutterfly.com/21

Exactly, like photographers pretending not to be interested in an animal before photographing it. :)
