    Hello! 50D, 1/1000, ISO 500, EF 100-400 Shot at 400.

Thank you for viewing and all C and C appreciated!

I would love to get a lower image on this guy but due to a fence the angles are limited.

    Have a great day.

    Gary.

Very interesting angle, composition and eye contact. For my taste the dark bkgr too dark and it appears the whites in the breast are too hot. Still very interesting image. TFS

love the pose and the eye contact, reflection is strong and the shooting angle whilst not as low as you would have liked works well. looks a tad dark on my screen, whites are up there but certainly not over.

    Gary:

His pugnacious character comes through clearly in this shot. Excellent reflection. A lower angle would have stretched and distorted the reflection, so I think this is about the perfect shooting angle.

Sharp, interesting angle with the flared tail.

It is too dark for my tastes, but at that ISO you could quick mask off the whites and eyes, and invert the selection and bring up the darker areas to taste.

Did you have some -EC cranked in for this shot? With the dark background, the camera is going to really want to crank up the exposure, and blow out the whites. For this type of bird ( dark/white) I generally expose for the whites (so I don't blow them) and then bring up the darker areas in post. That old dynamic range issue again.

    Nice one.

    Cheers

    Randy

    Great advice give by Randy.
Very interesting pose, love the little meanie look and the clear/sharp reflection. Like the droplets on the body too. Wish the light illuminate the face more evenly.

    Hi Gary

Great suggestions !!! Can add one more ... for this type duck all you need is perfect light .... anything short will give you trouble at one end of the scale !! I think you did the best possible from you position/time !!!

Love it. The "make my day" dead-on stare is perfect, and I like the side light.

Suggested edits: Open the shadow details a little more, brighten the yellow in the shadow eye, and add a bit of vignette to pull attention a little more into that stare. I also sharpened the fine details a tad. Great capture!
