    Default Theme: Unknown Flower

Posting this hoping to find a I.D. as I happened to notice by chance this weeks theme and thought one of you flower experts might know what it is.

It was from a plant that was growing within one of my large stag horn ferns. I can't I.D. the plant or the flower. The flower bloomed one day, never opened and then died. A little smaller then actual size.

Used a black shirt as the background.

Not sure if this falls within the theme so move or delete as necessary.

    Thanks.

Mike, Welcome to OOTB! Very nice first post. I can't help you with the ID-sorry,maybe some of our other members can. Beautiful black BG and lighting for this. I like how it looks to be hanging by a thread!

    Mike,
I can't help with the ID either; I've never seen anything like this. It certainly has a lot of visual interest - overall shape, curly lines, colors from pastel to vivid. A solid black BG can be risky, but it really works here - the flower "pops". I think the simple vertical composition works well too.

A tip from a botanist friend (which I frequently forget until it's too late!): flower ID often requires a good view of the entire plant, clearly showing the stem(s) and leaf arrangement.

Can't help w/ the ID. This is a nice composition. I like the upside down look and the soft colors against the black BG.

Mike, welcome to OOTB! I like the flower (sorry I don't know what it is either) and the way it contrasts with
    the bg. Nice job!

Sorry I can't help with the ID either, but looks like a very interesting flower. I like the colors against the black BG.

    Hi Mike -

It looks like a "night-blooming cereus" post-bloom. We used to have parties based around a friend's gigantic plant that would be filled with 20-30 blooms opening very late evening. Very fragrant!

Thanks so much for the info. Thats it. I guess it might have opened at night and then closed by the next morning.

Very nice image as presented. Love the details and the color in the dark background.
