Red Throated Loon On The Ocean

Not entirely happy with this, but it's my first Red Throated Loon :)

Image created yesterday morning in bright overcast. The bird was sort of back / side lit.

Nikon D300s, 500VR, TC17EII, ISO 800, F8, 1/400, NearUni preset, CW metering, +2 EV applied.

The isolated red eye in a field of black and white is striking.The dull looking water also adds to bring focus on the bird. HA is good except not an expert on perfect degree.
I have seen them in color on territory but not in winter plumage.

Cool bird. I like the pano crop and both the eye contact and color. I might darken the water just a bit.

Interesting thought on the water color Doug. It really was that bright on the surface but you may be right in that it would help the image.

I like the soft colors - almost black and white - with that red eyes which makes the photo. I would not darken the water.
