Hmmmm, not sure, I may have gone horizontal to give the body and long bill more room. Shame about the head angle as you mention. Good EXP control and sharpness.
Hi Steve: I wouldn't mind seeing a horizontal repost. Isn't it fun when you decide one thing and comments call for the opposite? It happens to me all the time. I like the waves in front of the bird and as mentioned before the red eye is really glowing. Nice job on exposure as well. Thanks.
Hi Steve, I love the COMP as is especially the multiple reflections. The too contrasty wet face and the dirty chin are less than ideal. Losing the bill highlights and blackening the pupil would help.

All of the above plus reduced contrast on the face and de-SATed the whites.
Wish that I had more pixels to work with :)

Hi Artie,
Thanks for the rework, it is much better. Glad you like the comp.
I chose the vertical comp to put more emphasis on the reflections.
Thanks everyone for your comments.
Hi Steve! Made it down to the Bosque yesterday for a couple of hours; looks like you guys did quite the job down there! Artie's repost is a nice improvement. I like the vertical crop.
You are most welcome, Steve. Was this image made at Bosque?
Not to all: Steve was one of this year's Bosque Open Windows Volunteeer crew. Kudos to Steve and Gary and the rest of the gang.

Artie,
The image was taken at the same spot on the boardwalk as your Clark's Grebe last year.
I have anoyher image of this bird I will post later today, it should remind you of your image.
Doug,
Thanks. How are you and the 7D doing. I wish I'd had mine for this image.
Hey Steve, Thanks for the info. I am liking my 7D and will be using it more in January. There is info on the 7D in recent Bulletins and also in some of the Blog posts at www.BIRDSASART-Blog.com
