    Default d300 noise.

hi all, just wondered to all the d300 users and d300s users how you find the noise at low iso from iso 400 to 1000, as i find that sometimes it can be quite noisey. compared to my pentax k200d and my k20d,

How about you post reference shots for comparison?

    Hi Scott,
Please post some of your sample photos showing the noise factor and the EXIF data to see if we can assist you in whats going on...It could be something thats happening in post processing. Are you shooting RAW, TIFF, or JPEG...I have a D300s and noise is not a problem.

    Scott,

I personally find on the D300 that the ISO between 200-500 is acceptable. In the Lo options Lo.3 isn't bad, but the D300's native ISO is 200 so I try to stay as close there as possible for landscapes and macros. In wildlife and action the ISO is always at 400.

I'm personally very particular about sharpness in my images, and I find that after ISO 500 the sharpness just isn't there to my liking.

I use my D300 at iso 640 and 800 most all the time. The first image is at iso 640, the second at iso 800, exposure is key.

I always enjoyed the high ISO of my D90 (same sensor) But recently I'm starting to see quite a bit of noise. I dont know if I'm getting picky and noticing noise more. But heres a pic with a 100% crop of ISO 500.

I find similar results as Nancy described. If I underexpose, the noise is much more a problem when shooting above iso 400. If I nail the exposure, I can go to iso 1000 with acceptable noise.

Exposure is key! I shoot ISO 800 all the time and have no issues, and ramp it up to ISO 1600 with no worries as noise removal programs can clean this up with no problem.

Here is a recent image at ISO 1250.

    Default d300 noise

I love my D300 and shoot above 800 a lot here in the murky UK. But I do find I still lose fine detail compared to 400 and below.

    regards.

    Scott,

    I have a K10D and the D300, The D300 is just a little better.
It wouldnt suprise me if the K20 is just as good.
    Pentax camera's are very underrated.
