On my monitor, I find the bird and the perch very bright, like it's glowing for some reason. Looks like some light was coming up from the bottom as the belly part of the bird is brighter than its head. It also looks like to me you have blurred the background. Applying blurring is not really that easy to do, IMO, and, unfortunately, I'm seeing the results of it when not done well. Composition looks fine to me. Details look good. Eye looks sharp. I think you may want to consider at least tone down the brightness of the perch though.

    Thanks for sharing !

Hi Rob - going to agree with desmond :) You have a good Ha eye contact and pose, along with a complimentary BG.
I would go back to the RAW and start your PP again - maybe not quite as much sharpening as well.

Looking forward to seeing a repost!!

Hi Rob Great suggestions and fully agree !!!

For the perch it is not all that difficult to improve, would make a layer and select the perch itself then multiple and lower opacity. If you look in the educational section we do have tutorials on the procedure ... can do more than once !!

For smoothing the bg the easiest way I know is going with PhotoKit Sharpener, it was brushes and can apply smoothing ... agin can do same with PS but just makes life simple !!!

Strong base image with a good pose and love the bg !!!

.... btw not sure why or what would you spot meter? .. did come up with a good exposure ... matrix would be best !!

Lots of detail here and I like the composition;I think the advice already given will give you the results you're looking for.

    Hi Rob,
I like the composition and capture...agree with the techs. and sound advise given...the head angle and eye contact are good, so are the feather details...just need to work on the perch just a tad...looking forward to your next one...
