This morning I watched the pelicans feed again. That little guy peeking out of the pouch did not escape, by the way. I cropped quite a bit to achieve the look I wanted -- hope it works. There was the usual tweaking (not forgetting to set white/black points this time, Lance). And I tried to attack the NR and sharpening selectively. I'd appreciate criticism . . .

Hi Wendell - Love the action - timing is perfect.
Some of your whites are Hot - top of the neck area, are you using the threshold method to set your black/white point??? Holding down ALT (if using P.S.) will take you to threshold (Hold it down whilst dragging the slider)- you then adjust the black/white slider until you start to see something (Image will be white until you start) then just back it off a tad.
Quality seems to be suffering a little probably courtesy of the large crop.

    Keep em coming :)

    Hi Wendell,
I like the capture...this is one hungry little fellow. Agree with Mr. Peters on the techs. and sound advise. I also like the tight crop...keep them coming...

Good tip about setting black and white point.
Love the look on the fish face, the bubble and ripple around the bird. Your choice of crop works for me too. Like how you selectively sharpen too, so it wouldn't bring out noise in the background. Wish the bird turn toward you a little more but that would give a different angle of the fish head.

Hi Lance: I did not use the threshold method, but I do know about it. Incidentally, it is available in Lightroom but not in Elements (so far as I know, and those are the two programs I use). And, yes, you are right, it is a rather large crop, perhaps less than 20% of the original image is left.

Hi Wendell Best not to attempt the large crops, every time you nail an image then try printing will be a problem, for web use you can get away with huge crops !!!

If you have 2.0 LR you can do lots of the global changes to your image, setting he white/black point is a snap plus you got a little recovery. It is always part of the workflow !!!

Crop wise it looks good and refreshing !!! Does need the little head rotation to be its very best !!!
