Sharp, good details. Shadow areas help give depth to the image. It looks like there's some blue fringe along the back of the head. I may brighten and increase the contrast of the eye more.
Yep just discovered Reifel earlier this year as I am new to the area and thoroughly enjoying having this photo opportunity on my doorstep. I just received my copy of Digital Basics today so give me time and in the meantime feel free to repost an image.
Very nice, sharp with lots of feather details. The thing I like most are the stuffs on the beak, sure give a story to this image. I have a fix feeling about the shadow, agree with Desmond that it gives depth to the image but at the same time some (not all) distracts a bit.
This strikes me as a masterful portrait. In that context, the lighting seems perfect to me. In this case, details are becoming for a bird with such elegant feathers with a variety of textures. I wouldn't change a thing.
Jamie, wonderful portrait with great sharpness and detail. I agree with Desmond about the eye, and were it mine I might have wished for a cleaner beak but that's my personal preference and anyway, you get what you get. Digital Basics will help a lot. Great image!
Hi Jamie
This is a lovely portrait composition, very nice. Since you'll have lots of chances with this particular subject, you might want to also pay special attention to the bg. For me having both the blue and brown in the bg, and the demarcation running across the center of the image detracts from an otherwise terrific image.
Cheers
Gail
Love the framing and crop Do wish you would have had a good light angle, don't see how a dark back of the neck and much lighter front can enhance an image in any way? Gail has a good point on altering the horizon line !!!
Also make multiple images to choose from since some will have the membrane down like in this one, much rather see the clear eye !!! Looking forward to the next one !!! ... btw with favorable bg would stop down a bit more and can safely increase ISO !!! Excellent !!!
Hi Techs covered above - agree with AL and Denise - the light angle and there does appear to be soe cloning marks maybe behind the head.
Sharpness is spot on - Good show:)
Hi Jamie,
I like the capture and up close pose...I agree with the techs. and sound advise given...just watch your light angle, and keep on practicing...
Just got back from work and thanks for all your comments.
I am not happy with the shadows and light is something I am learning to deal with and will get the hang of sooner or later. The only cloning was done around the beak to clean up some stray twigs, grass etc which I found a little distracting. The smudge behind the head is the top of a stem of grass that I am unable to deal with presently due to my limited technical abilities in photoshop. Next time I come across one of these guys on the path I want to increase the dof as the front of the beak is a little soft and also around the back of the head could be sharper. I took a bunch of photos but messed up the dof on most of them.
This was my second posting on here and thanks again for the feedback.
