I like the background that show good environment and your placement of the bird in the frame, fits the direction in which the eye is looking well. Is this a heavy crop?

Looks like your near dawn or dusk with a TC, so you were forced to a pretty high ISO. I think we see the effect of that, but despite that, I really like the image. The bird separates amazingly well from the somewhat similar BG. You have good eye focus, a great subject and good composition.

Did you apply Noise Reduction? If so, which software?

Lots to like here Desmond - is it just my tired eye's or is there some smearing/loss of detail on the top of the wings?
Like the BG - Good HA. 1600 iso looks pretty good.

    Well done Desmond,
The bird is placed just right in frame, and I like the capture angle, you have fine details and a sharp eye...good show...

I agree w/Lance, looks like detail is lost or flat in places? Might be a tad sharp as well.

Anyway, I love the BG and all BIF pictures are challenging, love the wing position and wing-tips. Composition/placement is great.

Not if it were taken by a D700 :). Seriously, it was taken at around 4:30pm on Dec 19, 2008. Perhaps an hour or so before sunset. The main thing is, if I remember correctly, it was largely back-lit from the 10 o'clock direction from where I stood, and I needed to open up to get details of the bird but at the same time had a decent shutter speed to use. This pic is actually slightly over-exposed, if I remember correctly (I put away the original raw file somewhere now) and so the raw image is quite flat.

I have two: Neat Image and Dfine 2.0. Been using Dfine 2.0 more lately. For this one originally I might have ran it through Neat Image. The ISO 1600 of a D300 is not that bad actually.

Thank you for the comments, David !

It was not taken under the ideal situation and so a so-so result :D

Thanks for the comments, Jeff !

I think you made the best possible image from your position. Particularly like the tech settings going with the higher ISO !!! Big Congrats !!!

Impressive how the bird stands out from the BKGR. Agree w others some areas of the bird look a little soft. Beautiful wing postion. TFS
