    Default Owl and Hawk

The Short-eared Owl caught the vole and the male Northern Harrier thought he could take it away. Taken yesterday morning. It is a crop and perhaps lacks some detail. I thought the expression of the owl was worth posting. 50D, 500mm f/4 at f/5.6, 1/1500, ISO400, tripod. The little white thing off to the right is a feather, although I do not think any serious contact was ever made. Dave

That expression on the owl is priceless! Techs aside, you've captured some great action here.

Nice action, wish they were in sharp focus but these scenes happen so fast and you got only one shot at it. The upper bird is a Northern Harrier not a Hawk.

I like the action and the owl's expression- well spotted and captured.

So you were there, too, Dave ?!

I wasn't but I know somebody else was.

Nice action shot ! Agreed that the expression on that owl is priceless. Kind of a funny look :)

Thanks for comments everyone. It was fun.
Hi Desmond. Yes a couple of us arrived a bit late but just in time to catch the action. I have seen these two tangle before. The owl is no slouch and had no apparent problem ditching the hawk. Hopefully one of tye other fellows has sharper shots. Dave
