I made this image around the same time this morning as the White-Crowned Sparrow image ( http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php?t=4863 )
[I've been working hard to pay attention to bg, head angle and light angles lately]

I'm posting it here because I'm not too sure about leaving the branch that extends up. I thought about removing it, but then I'd have a shadow of a phantom branch on the body of the bird. I'm not sure if my PS skills are up to removing the shadow... The branch is simple...

Canon 20D, 1/2500th, Av, Evaluative Metering, no compensation, ISO 200
    Sigma 50-500 / 500mm @ f/ 6.3, on a monopod in my backyard
WB & crop in ACR, sharpening and lightened the area around the eye a bit and cloned out some thistle seed schmut from the beak in PS

Hi Richard Would go with the clone suggestion Not difficult to clone I used Robert's (O'toole) suggestion Its a masking technique not difficult to do Best way to learn is from his Cd and has lots of other things to boot !!! Also added a little canvas to the front and cropped a bit from the back

Very lovely image real good from my end !!! Big Congrats !!!

    Thanks Alfred.
No need to add to the canvas as I cropped the original and have plenty of space in front... Agreed cloning out the branch is easy... I'm not sure I like the look of the (now vanished) shadow on the bird though...

Hi Richard Got the shadow out Same technique Robert uses If you try straight cloning with the clone stamp it will end up messy I have gone to quick mask One you get the basics will be instinctive
