Still waiting for permission to post some MIV images I have been heading down to the lake near my home to try for the elusive eagle without luck. There have been lots of vultures of both species around. I photographed this young bird this morning from the SUV with the 800mm f/5.6 L IS lens and the Mark IV on the BLUBB.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome. Equivalent focal length 1040mm = 20.8X magnification.

See corrections on focal length below....

Here's the view from the Sequoia. 50D with the 24-105mm at 35mm. Equivalent focal length: 51.2mm = 1.02X magnification. You gotta love those long lenses....

The bird in Pane #1 was the one on the lower perch.

Looks good. Can you give the ISO, SS, and aperture values?

    That's an awesome birdscape too!

Thanks for stopping by Dave. Sorry; I've been working too hard!

ISO 400. Evaluative metering +2 stops: 1/160 sec. at f/8. And I screwed up above. This one was with the 800 and the 1.4X II TC so this is now correct: equivalent focal length 1456mm = 29.12X magnification.

(I moved the car back and added the TC to reduce the angle of inclination.)

    Look at all that magnification!

Good image quality from the Mark lV. The head/face looks a bit soft on my end.

Over 1000mm,20X No more digi-scoping needed, not even for record shots I guess, fantastic
    Is this MkIII or IV?
Very interesting plumage pattern on this young bird, I like the raised feathers too,
almost a feel of a pearly color, you don't get that in adults.

some pretty fantastic equipment Artie, well done. I am wondering if you needed to stay in the vehicle, are these birds are that skittish?

Great stuff Arthur, very clever to move back a bit and add the TC, as the angle is perfect.
The head looks sharp enough to me but the overall picture seems a bit washed out colourwise.
I can see that it was a not a super sunny day. I would maybe add the tiniest bit of sat. to the pinks on the head
    to lift the overall colour.
Other than that everything is spot on with me...comp. is great, leads the eye right up the perch and to the face.
    Cheers, Paul Randall:)

I like the vertical comp, and very well done on the FL. Sharp detail on the head, and I like the single ruffled feather. Well captured Artie.

Exposure is spot on Boss. Love the look of the juvies feathers and head. Good call on moving back and adding TC. I wish the perch wasn't cut and stripped of bark up front but still not that bad. Amazing how close you can get with 800mm and TC. Congrats

The bird's eye and face does look soft to me while the shoulder and wing is in focus.

Very slight crop. The heads of the young birds are more black than red....

The vultures can either be skittish or tame but if I like the image I can make from the car I stay in it. That plus I am lazy.
