A different frame from the rhino charge posted a couple of days ago. Would be interested to hear your views on the conversion and which for you is the stronger image... I love B&W as a medium so I am bias...I have placed subject in center of frame of pano crop as I feel it makes for a stronger composition.

D3 200-400 wimberly on monopod , f4 @ 1/1000 1250 iso , very windy conditions , shot from crouching position in back of open 4x4...

Peter - the color version is intense but the black and white version is even better in my opinion.

I like the more ominous mood of the B and W. Nice shot.

I'm also becoming a big fan of B&W and this one is a gem, Peter. Well done. Great IQ for that ISO

I am not normally a huge B&W fan,but I think this work very well. The reduction in apparent intensity is very interesting, plus it has had the effect of making the image look old. By that I mean the almost porthole lighting result.

Agree with Ken here, the lighting effect really brings out the quality of this B&W image.
    Well done Peter.

I also love B&W and it really suits this subject. You have given great mood with the conversion. I like the light on the leaves in the mouth, just highlighting them … adds to to the composition in my view.

WOW, amazing capture! All four feet off the ground and tack-sharp. The lighting is fantastic; strong sidelight and dust cloud really add to the drama. B&W was the best choice for this image.

Extremely powerful image. The B&W makes it even stronger. Besides it would cover the stain on the ground behind me if I were the photographer!! ;) I love the front on presentation and the eye contact, the dust kicked up and the OOF back up Rino behind number one!

Just a superb image. The B&W version feels even more focused and intense to me. Outstanding. I love it.

The B&W version is great but.....thinking back to the prior post I recall thinking the vegetation in the rhino's mouth was a great touch to the composition and that just doesn't have the same effect without color. Not sure which I prefer (probably need to see them side by each) as both make great, but different, impressions.
