Default Black Rapid R5 Strap and Quick Release Clamp?

    Hi,

I recently bought the R5 strap from Black Rapid to be used with my Canon 500F4IS, 400F5.6 and 70-200F4IS. The strap attaches to a Camera tripod mount or a lens foot/plate thread via a 1/4"-20 connector (thread specs are guessed as they are not listed on their website). I am wondering if it wouldn't be more convenient to attach the connector to a quick release clamp to be able to quickly change between lenses or if I'd want to go from handheld w/ strap to tripod mounted.

Has anyone looked into this? I talked to Really Right Stuff but their quick release clamps are only 3/8"-16 threaded. The only option they proposed was to use a reducer bushing but they didn't want to recommend that really as it just increases the likelihood that something might come loose one notch.

Does anyone know of QR clamps which have a 1/4"-20 thread? And the corresponding lens plates also need to be compatible with the 4thGen Mongoose 3.5a clamp.

    Thanks. JR

I use an ebay clamp (#370211582656) on my RS-4, just be aware that the mounting hole is not pre-threaded, so you need to thread it through using the screw, after that, it's very secure and tight. If you are not comfortable with off-brand clamp, the Kirk clamps are 1/4", and have flush back, which is good for the fastner.

Look at the Kirk 1" QR for $40 on their website
