I visited a local pond while in Melbourne but wasn't able to get low enough to be happy with birds on the water so I waited until they used some of the submerged logs.

Very nice image Rob! Exposure is excellent and sharpness is top-notch. Throw in a great stretching pose, good eye contact, an interesting perch, and a lovely green BG and you have a winner!

Great looking coot. The raised foot makes this one for me. Very nice image with a lovely bird and BG. Congrats.

Sweet looking pose and light. Love the rock. Expo is spot on.
It is always funny to see their huge looking legs.

Rob, excellent exposure on those blacks, and love the stretching pose. Pin sharp, and what a great OOF BG. Well captured.

I'ts hard to make a coot look good but you certainly done that here. All round fine image, especially like the raised rear foot.

Killer bird, pose, EXP, and sharpness. Love the stretched wing. Bummer about the stuff blocking the foot on the log. The bill would surely benefit from a Linear Burn. Maybe a large one.

I gotta be nuts. I am flying to Dayton, OH tomorrow for a program and have not packed a thing yet....

    Yikes.

IAC, took the crud off the toes (with a series of warped Quick Masks) and did a Linear Burn on the bill and shield. Even added two joints from the good toes.... All as described in Digital Basics and APTATS I.

dear artie. nice work on the bg but somehow i found that you missed the line at the white tip on head. and the black line is clearly visible there.
