Early this morning I witnessed a wonderful feeding frenzy at Bolsa Chica. Unfortunately, i got very few acceptable images, and, as luck would have it, almost none of the many white and brown pelicans among the cormorants, nor of the egrets along the banks -- perhaps tomorrow. Even this little grebe, who dove repeatedly, would not cooperate and face me with its catch. I was standing on a bridge above it, by the way. The image is cropped and tweaked a bit. And though the body looks rather smooth, I did do my NR and sharpening selectively.

wendell, nice picture and self exam, does look a tad soft? Of course the angle was against you a bit too but nice action shot catching him at lunch time.

Maybe sharpen more or do what you can to get the shutter higher, flash, raise ISO, might clone out water spot on bottom on the frame, well done show us some more.

A lower angle is always nice. Good catch though, you and the grebe!

Can you elaborate on why you got so "few acceptable images"?

    Colin:

Yes, primarily for two reasons: my camera settings, EV and shutter speed were mostly "wrong" -- and I know better, too, and also my being super-critical (my wife says too much so), since I already have many "good shots" from earlier sessions. Also, the sun had just come up and was glaring brightly on the scene. By the way, I just returned early this morning from the same spot, and the place is heavily fogged in making photography virtually impossible. There is always tomorrow (I keep telling myself). . .
