A pair of Royal Terns appeared as I was walking along the Cape May beach last Sunday looking for Skimmers. Got off one shot and then they flew off. I know this is a rear-view shot with less head-turn than I would have wished. No time to check for blinkies and re-adjust, so I clipped the whites a bit in the RAW file. I think I recovered fairly well in conversion according to the histogram. Stopping down a bit would have helped the DOF but brought out the ugly motel in the BG, which I blurred out. C&C appreciated.

Lots to like here, love the shot, remember you must protect the whites and you know that the EV will probably be less than 0. Anyway, well done - just keep in mind beach shots, lots of sun and sand/water reflection, when imaging anything with highlights the EV will usually be in the (-) range.

I like the composition, he is pondering and that is well presented.

    Hi Bill,
Very good advise given and the techs. covered by Mr. Cashdollar. I might also suggest in cropping tighter from the top, thus making this into a pano, also wish that the bird where looking your way...looking forward to more...
